Mel York and Alison Martlew of legendary queercore band The Butchies will be on with Savannah and Joey O at 6 pm Sunday, July 17th on I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out! We'll be discussing their reunion show at the Cat's Cradle which be happening on Wednesday, July 21st. The Cuntry Kings will be hosting, and local favorites Pink Flag will be opening. Check it out!
Intergalactic Blam! - A high-octane old-time string band featuring musicians from Durham, Hillsborough and Boston, will be playing live on-air during "The Bull City Cosmic Hoedown" tonight (Tues) during the 7:00 hour. Expect total chaos and destruction of stringed instruments as planets collide.
I will be on site and behind the scenes at the 2010 Pitchfork Music Festival at the beautiful and quaint Union Park in Chicago, Illinois June 16-18. Step into the Divaville Lounge on Sunday, July 4 as we celebrate Independence Day! In this special four hour program from 12-4 pm, we'll hear a song for each of the United States. Step into the Divaville Lounge on Sunday, April 25 from 2-4 p.m. as we celebrate the birthday of Ella Fitzgerald! We'll hear her earliest recordings with the Chick Webb orchestra, selections from her groundbreaking Songbook series, her collaborations with legendary bandleaders like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie, and even hear her shatter a glass for Memorex. Tune in for an afternoon of incomparable jazz singing by Ella, First Lady of Song.
Tune in to The Bull City Cosmic Hoedown during the 7:00pm hour on Tues April 20 to hear a live performance and interview with Chapel Hill's Mandolin Orange. This exciting young folk/bluegrass duo has been burning up the club circuit and outdoor festivals with their fiddle and mandolin playing and their tight vocal harmonies. Andrew Marlin and Emily Franz have been drawing large crowds wherever they play and have gotten a lot of attention for their wonderful duet singing and original songs, as well as covers of classic country and bluegrass tunes. Last year they released an EP and are now about to release their first full-length album, "Quiet Little Room", with an album release party at Local 506 on May 1st.
Hip-Hop legend and GangStarr founder Guru has passed away yesterday morning (April 19) after a long battle with cancer.
