Ruth Brown Shake A Hand (VA) Original Gold Soul Mercury Terrific 1968 2-LP set that probably should have been titled Original Gold R&B. There's little of the "soul" sound that was sweeping America around then. I suspect the label was trying to drum up sales by simply taking the "soul" label on there. Killer track from 1962 from Ruth Brown here...
Dinah Washington Salty Papa Blues (VA) Original Gold Soul Mercury 1961 for this great Dinah Washington cut...

* Pine Leaf Boys Whiskey C'est Mon Ami Back Home Valcour another new Valcour release. This label is bringing all the best of the new generation of Louisiana music to the fore.
* Joan Soriano Maria Elena El Dique de la Bachata iASO Killer uptempo merengue from the Dominican Republic. Cedric Watson discussed these Caribbean rhythms a lot and the influence they've had on Creole music of Louisiana

* The Vegetable Orchestra Scoville Onionoise Rough Trade amazing album in which almost every sound heard is from a vegetable instrument!!!
